Fomin botanical garden

The Fomin Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical institutions in our Ukraine. From the very beginning of its foundation and during the whole century it has been the main centre of botanical science developement in Ukraine.

Fomin botanical garden history
It was founded on May 22, 1839. Many scientific achievements of the Garden are widely known in Ukraine and abroad and some of them have gone down into the world science history. For example, the double fertilization in angiosperm plants was described by the academician Navashin, who was the garden director at the 19th century. 
For a long period (1914-1935) the Botanical Garden had been headed by Academician Olexander Fomin, whose floristical research work is widely known.
To commemorate Academician O.V. Fomin's contribution into the development of botanical science as well as into preserving and enriching the collection funds, his name was given to the Botanical Garden in 1935.

Pechersky botanical garden
Pechersky Botanical garden was founded in 1935. It is the largest botanical garden in Kiev — it covers the territory of 130 hectares. In spring the botanical garden is especially charming, when numerous bushes of lilacs are blossoming. There are also whole-year-round excursions in hothouses (tropical plants, orchids, camellias and azaleas).

Askold's grave

Askold's Grave is part of the park complex on the right bank of the Dnipro River. In ancient days this area was called Urochishche Uhorskoho. According to a legend, on this very site near the Dnipro River, in 882 prince Oleg killed sons of Kyi — princes Askold and Dir. Oleg then ascended the throne and became a very successful ruler of Kievan Rus. As for Askold and his brother, they were buried on the place where they were killed.


 
Mariinskiy Park

Mariinsky park is located in the center of Kiev - not far from the European square. Any passerby can relax in the old park, which was founded in 1874. 
The main decoration of the park is Mariinsky Palace. In 1774, Empress Elizabeth, daughter of Peter I, during his visit to Kiev to choose a place for the construction of the palace. Mariinsky Palace was built in 1750-1755 by architect Rastrelli. Now it is also called the Presidential Palace. There are commemorative public event. Nowadays there are excursions to the Mariinsky Palace and not only the President or ambassadors of other countries can go inside. 
One of the jewels in Mariinsky Park is a fountain. In winter, it proudly stands out against the backdrop of snow fallen asleep alleys. In summer the fountain pleases young children. 
Meanwhile, the park employees are working, hard. Park always has to look "fresh." Flowerbeds, it's not surprising elegance of form, decorates the park at all year periods. In summer there roses bloom, and autumn can be seen on the "lights". 
The park has several monuments. Among them, a monument to the Ukrainian artist Mary Zankovetska.
